The Little Frogs Song's interesting origin

A lot of people have asked me what the weird but wonderful "Little Frogs Song" (Sma grodorna) is all about. It's such a big part of Swedish tradition and parties but I never knew where it came from or what it was all about. As with most Swedish things, I just accepted that it was weird and never questioned it.

But, the "Little Frog Song", as it turns out, has an interesting history behind it. It turns out the song is actually a French military song called "Le chant de l'Oignon" which means "The Onion March". The Brits then made a parody of the song and changed some of the lyrics to "Au pas, grenouilles" - which means something like "in rhythm, little frogs" (or "i takt, sma grodor" in Swedish). Check it out:

Viking Party People's Crayfish Party 2010

Yes, it's that time of year again when it's time for the annual Viking Party People's Swedish Crayfish Party to again wreck havoc in London.

All you Swedes already know the score. For the rest of you, yes it's another strange Swedish holiday where you put a silly hat on your head, wear a bib, down loads of disgusting Swedish Schnapps whilst singing drinking songs and you eat some lovely crayfish (or use it in a food fight).

We are hosting this year's party on the 11th September from 15:00 - 03:00 in the lovely beergarden (or inside if the weather is too bad/cold) of The Morrison pub on 648 Kings Road in Fulham.

TICKETS
Due to limited amount of space available, we can only fit in 30 people this year. So, if you want to ensure you don't miss out on the great fun (we sold out the previous two years) please visit our Facebook page and tick the "attending" or "maybe attending" button and I will send you the final details for the party before anyone else. The 30 places will be given to the first people to confirm and pay for their tickets. If your not on Facebook or would like to reserve more places for your friends as well, then please e-mail me on joe@hedgefundsclub.com

PRICE
The price will be around £20 per person (I will let you know what the exact price will be once I have ordered all the food, drinks etc.). The likely package that would be included in the price for you is:
* Access to this private party which will be decorated with lovely traditional... crayfish things...
* Lots of crayfish
* Bread, cheese and potato salad
* Hat and bib
* some traditional Swedish Schnapps
* a welcome drink
* a limited edition crayfish schnapps song book
* ...and free entrance to a nearby nightclub to finish off the night in style

Skål!
